3 questions to ask your candidates during the election campaign
Tuesday, April 26, 2011This federal election campaign, let’s be sure to all ask our candidates where they stand on animal welfare. Here are a few suggested questions to ask:
“If elected, will you work to:
- Strengthen the animal cruelty sections of the Criminal Code by closing the loopholes that currently prevent the prosecution of many serious cases of animal abuse and neglect?
- Make improvements to Canada’s shamefully inadequate regulations covering the transport of farm animals, including the addition of maximum density limits and a significant reduction in maximum transport times?
- Make animal welfare a priority for Agriculture Canada by:
a) Boosting the number of Canadian Food Inspection Agency inspectors working on the ground, so that humane transport and slaughter regulations can be properly enforced; and,
b) Establishing a specific policy framework for animal welfare, with significant ongoing funding?”
