Act Now!

Following the success of Tamara Chaney’s petition rejecting Bill S-213 (which gathered nearly 112,000 names and was tabled in Parliament in mid-February), a new petition is now circulating calling for the government to introduce effective amendments to the animal cruelty provisions of the Criminal Code based on Bill C-373.

After many requests from our caring supporters, we’ve made this petition easy to download by clicking on the link below.

Please return signed petition forms to:

The Canadian Federation of Humane Societies needs your help now!

Bill S-213 – the decoy bill introduced last year by Senator John Bryden – is scheduled for first reading February 26th, 2007. Sen. Bryden, as well as several animal industry groups who support this wholly inadequate bill, are working hard to garner support in the House of Commons. At this time, it’s uncertain how quickly the legislation will move through the House (although previous versions of the amendments to the animal cruelty law have gone through all three readings in the House in a single day).

We need your help NOW… to prevent Bill S-213 from becoming law.

Some Senators, MPs and animal use industry groups are arguing that Bill S-213 should pass now, and that other amendments – such as the ones the CFHS… has been pushing for over the last 7 years – can pass later. LATER… WHEN…? The CFHS… is deeply concerned that if the work of the last 7 years is ignored in favour of Bill S-213, it will be a long time before real, effective changes to the animal cruelty provisions of the Criminal Code are passed through Parliament. WE CAN’T TAKE… THAT… CHANCE…!

HOW… CAN… YOU… HELP…?
