Adopting adult cats makes sense

This past summer has been a busy season for several animal shelters across Canada as many have reported an increase in surrendered animals and few adoptions. This growth is mainly apparent in the cat adoption room and it can be somewhat attributed to low adoption rates in adult cats.

Despite the reason, the cats that have found themselves in humane societies and SPCAs are themselves simply looking for a caring loving home –so why not consider adopting an adult cat?

Adult cats are likely to be more patient and often adapt to their new surroundings more quickly than a kitten. Mature cats don’t require as much supervision as a kitten and they are often more affectionate, often wanting more lap time. When you adopt an adult cat, chances are they will likely be fully vaccinated, spayed/neutered, micro-chipped and registered whereas kittens will not necessarily have all their vaccinations. Adopting an adult cat just makes sense!

Many shelters offer special adoption rates for adult cats or for families wanting to adopt two cats at once. Please contact your local humane society or SPCA for more adult cat adoption information.
