CFHS remembers former Director

Friday, November 03, 2006

The CFHS staff and Board of Directors are saddened by the passing of former Board member Mary Driscoll. Mary was an active Board member from 1984 to 2003, and was the CFHS’ Treasurer from 1995 on. Mary was recipient of the 2003 McGrand Award, the CFHS’ most prestigious award, presented to builders of the humane movement and to those that have made significant contributions to animal welfare in Canada.

In addition to her crucial work with the CFHS, Mary is a past-president of the Calgary Humane Society, was involved with the Canadian Council on Animal Care, and is a former trustee (and former vice-president) of the Animal Welfare Foundation. A canine behaviour consultant by profession, Mary was well-known in Calgary’s dog training circles and for years ran very successful puppy classes.

Calgary Humane Society Executive Director Cathy Thomas has said of Mary:
“I would say that Mary has made an amazing contribution to the animal welfare world in so many ways. I have appreciated her very much as a mentor in the areas of shelter management, animal research, municipal politics and much, much more. She has truly dedicated her life to animal welfare.”

On behalf of everyone you supported and all the animals you helped, thank you, Mary.
