A year has passed since suspended NFL star Michael Vick was charged with running a dog fighting operation and thanks to the U.S. District Judge who ruled in the case, most of the dogs found on the property are being rehabilitated.
Each of the pit bulls found on the property was evaluated by animal behavior experts who were asked to set aside any breed stereotypes. As a result, 25 of the surviving dogs have been placed in experienced foster homes and 22 were sent to an animal sanctuary, as they were believed to be potentially aggressive toward other dogs. At the same time, the judge ordered Vick to pay up to $1 million for the care of the dogs that have been saved.
Just recently it was revealed that Michael Vick has filed for bankruptcy protection. According to the bankruptcy papers, Vick owes creditors between $10 million and $50 million. Vick is currently serving a 23-month prison sentence and has been suspended indefinitely without pay.
Believe it or not, Michael Vick would have got off scot free in Canada.
