Help us Stop Bill S-203!
There is still time to stop Animal Cruelty Bill S-203!
The Bill will be heading into Third Reading in April and we need your help to stop this inadequate bill from being passed.
Call, fax or email your Member of Parliament (MP) NOW and ask him or her NOT to support Bill S-203 when it comes up for Third Reading vote in the House of Commons.
Also call, fax or email Stéphane Dion and ask him to rally his party to oppose S-203. Remind him that the Liberal Party introduced a bill that would make the necessary amendments to our animal cruelty law seven times from 1999-2005. Ask him why they have abandoned those amendments are now supporting a useless bill that will NOT improve protection for animals from cruelty.
The following information has been put together to help you convince your MP to put a stop on Bill S-203.
Who stands where
- The Liberal Party is supportive of Bill S-203 (although some Liberal MPs oppose it).
- The Conservatives are supportive of Bill S-203.
- The NDP is strongly opposed to Bill S-203.
- The Bloc Quebecois is supporting Bill S-203 but also supports good legislation like C-373.
Follow these three steps:
- Find Your MP
If we can sway the Liberal vote on Bill S-203, we can win! If you are in a Liberal riding, we strongly encourage you to write your local Liberal MP because if we can sway the Liberal vote then we can win this battle. You are also encouraged to contact your Conservative MP to re-consider their support for this Bill.

- Keep the Message Simple
The message to send to your MP is simple: Do not support Bill S-203. This Bill will NOT increase protection for animals from cruelty and abuse. Our current law is archaic and ineffective and Bill S-203 will not change that. If Bill S-203 dies, that would pave the way for good legislation, like Bill C-373, to move forward.
