Accessibility and Access Keys [4]

While many humane societies and SPCAs conduct educational school visits, humane education has not yet become an integrated part of school curriculums. That’s why it’s important to re-enforce the value of animal care and compassion in the home with the proper humane education materials.
Humane education is a preventative strategy aimed at instilling empathy and caring in children as they learn about animals. It encourages them to be kind to animals and helps them learn more about appropriate and positive human/animal interactions. Humane education not only provides knowledge about animals but helps children develop respect, responsibility and self esteem.
Parents are encouraged to bring humane education learning into their home by visiting the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies’ online humane education section. A free educational curriculum for students from Kindergarten to Grade 8, child-friendly newsletters and links to other humane education resources are all available in this section.
Society needs to learn empathy and respect for animals and the best way of ensuring this is by teaching children about humane education.
