Preparing for a safe summer
Monday, May 12, 2008 With the warm weather now upon us, many people will be spending more time outdoors and in the sunshine – including pet owners and their pets. This season, take the proper precautions to keep your pets safe.
Summertime Pet Tips
- Keep your pet’s dish full with plenty of cold water for proper hydration.
- Leave your pets at home when you are running errands. They can suffer – and even die -from heat exhaustion very quickly, even on cloudy days.
- Lawn fertilizers can harm your pets, so keep them away from neighbouring lawns that have been treated with chemicals.
- Pet identification can help reduce the number of lost and stray animals. Make sure your pets have a tag and a microchip to help ensure that he or she can be returned to you as quickly as possible. Read more here for dogs and here for cats.
- Help prevent dog bites by socializing your pet, registering in obedience classes and having your pet spayed or neutered. Read more here.
