CFHS supporters and member societies responded immediately and generously to our request for assistance to help the animal victims of the ice storm in Ontario and Quebec in January 1998.These funds were used for animal rescue, transportation of food, cages and animals, and temporary shelter facilities. Some funds were left over and have been designated by CFHS to assist in any future natural disaster affecting animals in any part of Canada.
In addition CFHS recently received a grant from the Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada to develop a disaster planning manual for our member societies across the country. As community animal shelters will be called upon first to help companion animals in times of natural disasters, they must be prepared to respond quickly and professionally.
CFHS is grateful to the Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada for this funding. A reminder to our supporters that you should have an emergency plan for your pets in case of natural disaster. Further information is available from the CFHS office.
