CFHS has a new factsheet in the Living with Urban Wildlife series. The pigeon factsheet is available from CFHS and on our website. As with all our factsheets, single copies are available at no charge; bulk copies are $10 per hundred for member societies and $12 per hundred for individuals and non-member societies.
Coming soon to TV…Look for public service messages on TV soon! CFHS is extremely grateful to Samsara Arts in Montreal for producing two public service messages about responsible pet ownership. Samsara developed the two 30-second spots in French and English at no charge for the Canadian SPCA in Montreal. The SPCA then allowed CFHS to distribute copies through its member societies to television stations across Canada.
Keep your hope for animals alive!A bequest to the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies will help animals after you have gone. By remembering CFHS in your will, animals in the future will benefit from programs and efforts to protect them from abuse. For more information on planned giving, contact the CFHS office or your legal advisor.
ThanksCFHS thanks Storm Internet Services for hosting its website and providing email service for the office at no charge for the past few years. Storm has given us more space this year, allowing us to expand our website.
Circus Charged with Causing Animal SufferingA ringmaster and animal trainer with the George Carden Circus International pled guilty to a charge of causing five bears to suffer undue hardship, privation and neglect contrary to Newfoundland’s Animal Protection Act, arising from performances in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland in June 2000. They were sentenced May 1, 2001 and fined $200 each, the maximum allowed under the legislation. The judge stated that the penalties were inadequate and should be revisited. This is believed to be the first time a circus has been convicted of such animal mistreatment in Canada.
