Brick by brick Ontario SPCA Midland & District Branch supporters are making it pawsible

Midland, ON, (November 21, 2007) – The Midland & District Branch’s Making it Pawsible Campaign to rebuild the shelter following a devastating fire is picking up speed as the holiday season approaches. Site preparation for the new shelter has begun and a special “Brickbuilder” appeal is arriving at doorsteps this week.

By November 23, nearly every household in the Midland & District region will have received a Midland Brickbuilder invitation in the mail. Individuals are being invited to participate in the Making it Pawsible campaign by making a donation in support of rebuilding the Midland & District Branch. The mailing includes a paper brick, that once returned to the Ontario SPCA with the supporter’s name, will be posted at the Midland TIM-BR Mart. Bricks will also be available for purchase at a number of local retailers. Shelter staff are hoping that by encouraging each community member to give a small amount, it can go a long way toward helping the Midland Branch raise the amount needed for the shelter to reopen its doors.

Thanks to the hard work and generosity of the community over the past year, the Branch is nearing 86% of its $1.5 million goal. A great team has come on-board to help the Midland Branch construct a first-class animal care facility and reach its fundraising goal.

Cowden-Woods Design Builder’s Ltd. has been retained to manage the construction project, including securing all permits, facilitating the tendering process, and overseeing all on-site construction. The corners of the building have been marked, soil sampling is complete and tree removal and grading is currently underway. The next step is to begin excavation for the building’s foundation.

A volunteer fundraising committee, lead by community member, Jon Trask, has been working diligently on the Making it Pawsible Campaign to secure in-kind and cash donations to finance the cost of building the new 4622 square foot facility. There are still plenty of ways for Midland & District residents to help in the reconstruction process, including an opportunity to name a part of the new building with a donation of $500 or more.

“As more and more people come forward from the community and contribute to the Making it Pawsible Campaign, it really shows us how we’re valued in the community,” says Midland & District Branch Manager, Maureen Dool. “Brick by brick we will all see our shared dream of a new shelter become a reality, and once more we will be able to provide shelter and care to animals in need.”
