Eastern Townships walkathon

Sherbrooke, QC – The Eastern Townships Société Protectrice des Animaux (SPA) will hold its fifth walkathon on October 2nd. The walkathon will begin at noon and the SPA hopes to raise $25 000 so that they can continue to help the 7000 cats and dogs that are brought to their shelter every year.

SPA employees have been working extremely hard once again in order to make sure that the walkathon will be a great success. As last year, walkers and their dogs will be able to take part in a 4km parade that will be held on Jacques Cartier and King Streets and finish on the promenade du Lac-des-Nations, territoire d’intervention de Sherbrooke, Cité des rivières.

Participants who will have raised more than $150 will be able to get their dogs microchipped for free the day of the walk! Microchips are very helpful when pets get lost while not wearing their ID tags. Walkers who raise less than $150 will be able to have their dog microchipped as well, but will have to pay a small fee for the service. Good Dog Behavioural Certificates will also be given for dogs who participate in the walk.

Various activities will be held throughout the day, such as a dog obstacle race. Participants will also be introduced to many of the dogs that are up for adoption at the SPA along with their sponsors. A grand prize of a free year of 1st Choice cat or dog food (a value of $400) will be awarded to the person who will have raised the most money.

The SPA hopes to reunite some 1000 animal lovers with their dogs. People who are interested in participating in the fundraising activity are invited to get themselves an inscription pamphlet at the SPA which is located at 1139 Queen Blvd. North in Sherbrooke or by calling 821-4727.

The Eastern Townships SPA would like to thank 1st Choice cat and dog food, which is the activity’s number one sponsor, as well as Sherbrooke, Cité des rivières, TQS Estrie, Rock Détente, Énergie 106,1, La Tribune, Chlt 630, Canevabec, Fix Auto, Distributions Michel Fillion, Costco, Val Estrie Ford, Groupe Pro-Transmission, Mobilier Direct, The Record, La Nouvelle, Graphic-Art, Auberge canine Goldylock, Supérieur Propane, Hoptech, Central Sales, Jean Coutu and Télésécure.
