Moncton SPCA warns against fundraising letter from “Canadian SPCA”

Moncton, NB – The Moncton SPCA is advising area residents that it is not affiliated in any way whatsoever with the Canadian SPCA. The Canadian SPCA may be doing local fundraising and using a local address, but SPCA executive director Victoria Craig says that all funds raised through the Canadian SPCA stay in Montreal.

“Not one dime of that money will ever come to the Moncton SPCA or any other SPCA outside of Montreal,” she said.

“This is a national issue. Several local SPCAs across the country have asked the Canadian SPCA to stop raising funds in their areas, but to no avail. Fundraising is so crucial to our future. We don’t want well-meaning people to give to an organization thinking that they are helping the Moncton SPCA, when in fact they are giving to an organization whose activities take place solely in Quebec,” Craig said.

The Canadian Federation of Humane Societies is the only national organization with a mandate to represent and support humane societies and SPCAs in Canada. They are not affiliated with the Canadian SPCA in any way, nor is the Moncton SPCA.

The Moncton SPCA urges animal welfare supporters in the area and across the country to be aware and look closely at the organizations they choose to support – particularly during this holiday season of giving – and ensure their gifts are going to the charities and communities they intended.

The next major fundraiser for the Moncton SPCA can be found at Champlain Place in Dieppe. The annual gift-wrap booth is being set up in the hallway near Wal-Mart and we will begin wrapping all those holiday treasures for your loved ones from November 24 to December 24. The gift wrap is one of our largest fundraisers of the year and we hope this year will be no different. Also this year we have our annual pet photos with Santa. The event will take place at Global Pet Foods on Mountain Road.
This year, we have new improved digital photos, a new location, new times and new dates to get your pet’s photo taken. Bring your pet on Thursday, November 30, or on Friday, December 1, between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. or on Saturday December 2, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Photos are one for $10 and three for $25. There will be draws, door prizes, holiday treats and lots of fun! All pets are welcome.
