NEWMARKET, ON – Animal shelters throughout Ontario make important contributions to the communities they serve. During Ontario SPCA Shelter Appreciation Week from November 6 – 12, 2005, the Ontario SPCA is encouraging the public to show their support for their local shelter.
The Ontario SPCA helps the citizens of communities across the province by providing a variety of vital services including: matching homeless animals with new homes; rescuing abused, neglected, injured and abandoned animals; offering education about responsible pet guardianship and other topics; and helping reunite lost pets with their human families. The Ontario SPCA also provides advice to the public about co-existing with wildlife.
“Each of these services makes Ontario a better place to live for people and animals,” says Judy Marshall, Ontario SPCA CEO. “Community support is vital to the success of our organization and we look forward to having members of the public visit our shelters and learn more about the important services we provide. When residents take the time to express gratitude for our animal welfare contributions to their community, it means a great deal. Those moments are very rewarding for our staff.”
Here are some of the many ways that the public can support the Ontario SPCA branch or affiliated humane society in their community during Ontario SPCA Shelter Appreciation Week:

The Society is a registered charity, relying on donations to fund animal protection, care and rehabilitation for all animals, government and industry advocacy and public education. The Ontario SPCA is a member of the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS) and is affiliated with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).
