Vancouver Park Board bans import and display of cetaceans at Vancouver Aquarium

Belugas

The Canadian Federation of Humane Societies (CFHS) is thrilled that the Vancouver Park Board has unanimously voted to change its bylaws and end the importation and display of live cetaceans at the Vancouver Aquarium.

“The two terrible beluga deaths at Vancouver Aquarium late last year served as a wake-up call for the Vancouver Park Board, underlining the inherent cruelty of captivity for whales, dolphins and porpoises,” says CFHS CEO, Barbara Cartwright. “We’re very supportive of this move and congratulate the Board on its humane decision.”

As a supporter of and contributor to Bill S-203, which aims to ban cetacean captivity in Canada, the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies opposes cetacean captivity in Canada.
