Since the 1960s, the CFHS has taken a lead role in improving the welfare of animals used in research in Canada. This section provides information on some of the key issues in this area, and the CFHS’ ongoing activities.

  • TORONTO BANS CAT AND DOG SALES THROUGH PET STORES

    Toronto City Council voted unanimously today to ban the sale of dogs and cats in pet stores following the example set by Richmond, BC. The decision restricts pet stores to carrying only dogs and cats from humane societies, SPCAs and other shelters.
